The Gateway to the Region
Although Gibraltar is the destination for Business, Financial and Maritime Services and city break tourism, the airport is also strategically located at the Western end of the Costa del Sol and the Cadiz side of the Costa de la Luz, demonstrating the potential that the airport's catchment area has to offer.
The Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz are renowned for golf, beaches, hotels, marinas, and second homes in the sun, attracting tourists from all over the world.
While inbound traffic is dominant within region, there is a resident population of approximately 500,000 within a 60-minute drive of Gibraltar International Airport, including a large expatriate community of EU nationals owning second homes in the area or resident in the region, frequently travelling to their countries of origin or welcoming VFR traffic from these. The main AP-7 Motorway that stretches along the entire Costa del Sol and provides access to the Costa de la Luz is only 15 minutes away from GIB.
Passenger Arrivals - Final Destination
The strength of GIB in the catchment area is already proven as approximately 60% of arrivals yearly are 'in transit' to the neighbouring region, heading both east and west to the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz.
